Challenge

Founded in 1972, Aalborg Instruments & Controls is well known throughout the world as a primary manufacturer of precision instrumentation for flow measurement and control. Their mission is to develop, produce and deliver products and services which consistently conform to or exceed their customer requirements.

Recently, due to continued expansion / production growth, they were looking to make more use of the vertical space in their facility. Aalborg Instruments & Controls reached out to The Mezzanine Company to provide a solution.

To meet their needs, the new platform would need to be designed to be flexible for use as a possible storage area for raw materials or even office space in the future. Additionally, we would need to incorporate the platform into an existing, actively used production space below.

Solution

Working closely with Aalborg, we came up with a design for an irregular shape shaped ~2,200 square foot platform that would serve their needs. For the flooring, Resindek with a Grey Diamond Seal would be used for a more durable finish.

The platform was custom designed, with a specific shape and column placement, to fit perfectly around an overhead door and production space below. It would also include a 6’ double swing gate to enable them to load and unload materials from the platform.

Additionally, to provide flexibility for now and into the future, the mezzanine was designed to be usable for office space. This included providing the platform with an IBC staircase for employee and also a 3 rail handrail system.

Once the approval drawings were generated, our local project manager made a site visit to make the finishing design adjustments. Additionally, P.E. Stamped Drawings, for the State of NY, were provided for the permitting process.

When the platform production was complete, we arranged for a prompt delivery and coordinated together the best installation schedule. We were able to install with minimal impact to their daily operations, as highlighted by the positive feedback we received from the customer.

TJ Baan, from Aalborg, had this to say about our services “Easy connectivity when answers are needed in prepping permits and for prompt quotations. Good adherence to time schedules. Your installation crew worked hard and efficiently. The installation meticulously followed the plans and your crew did a lot of good work without interfering with our own production people.
