Aleut Management Services, Harper’s Ferry, WV
Aleut Management Services is “a family of companies that offers extensive product and service capabilities including operations, maintenance and related services, information technology and communication services, engineering services, mechanical contracting and construction, oil field services, and water testing to a range of customers and government agencies”. Back in 2014, they were awarded a contract from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Advanced Training Center (ATC) in Harpers Ferry, WV. This contract was for facility operations and maintenance.
Recently, Aleut contacted us since they were looking to gain extra storage space in their client’s facility. Floor space was limited in two of their buildings and it was time to take advantage of the available air space in both buildings.
One of the main challenges of the project would be that both buildings had existing columns and existing MEP systems (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) to work around. A custom design would be needed to work around the obstructions while still providing plenty of clearance under the mezzanines.
Working closely with the customer, we came up with a design for two custom storage mezzanines; one for each area. The custom design took into consideration all of the existing obstructions and needs in both buildings.
After the proposal was approved, and the approval drawings were ready for review, one of our project managers made a site visit and made final adjustments to the designs. Once the mezzanine was ready for shipment, we coordinated the installation with one of our installation teams.
The first mezzanine was approximately 1,400 square feet, with a capacity of 250 PSF. The second mezzanine was approximately 700 square feet with a capacity of 150 PSF. Both mezzanines included an OSHA compliant designed staircase and handrail on the open sides. The handrail for the mezzanines was a custom combination of yellow and gray railing
In order to accommodate the easy transfer of materials on and off the mezzanines, both included a 6’ sliding gate.
