Case Study

Eagle Flight Research Center is an official extension of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, located near the Daytona Beach Campus. They provide industry, government, and the military solutions to flight research programs, while at the same time providing real-world hands-on projects for their students, staff, and faculty.

The facility has a 10,000 square foot hangar with convenient runway access at the international airport. Additionally, there is space for research, instructional, and administrative purposes. Recently, they were looking to gain additional storage space in this hanger.

Eagle Flight Research Center reached out to The Mezzanine Company to provide a storage solution. In order to maximize the storage space, we would need to work around a number of obstructions along two of the three walls that the mezzanine would butt up against.

Working closely with Eagle Flight Research Center, we came up with a design for a 1,452 square foot rectangular shaped storage mezzanine that would serve their needs. For the flooring, Resindek would be used.

To work around multiple obstructions along the wall, the mezzanine was custom designed with a height of 11’ 6” which was the optimal height to minimize interference. Additionally, as seen in the photos, the mezzanine had multiple cutouts, to work around these obstructions.

The mezzanine included a straight IBC stair, to allow for foot traffic. Also, a 6’ double swing gate, to allow for moving materials on and off the mezzanine, was provided.

Once the proposal was accepted, approval drawings were generated and our local rep made several site visits to make the finishing design adjustments. Additionally, we provided PE stamped drawings, for the State of Florida, to be used for permitting purposes.

When the mezzanine production was complete, we arranged for a prompt delivery and coordinated the best installation schedule for the customer. The mezzanine was installed by our local installation team, as planned.
