Challenge

Founded in 1885, The Florida Fire District provides prompt effective fire suppression, responds to specialized rescues and natural disasters, and advances public safety through its fire prevention and education programs.

Recently, The Florida Fire District was looking to gain some much needed storage space in the main bay of their fire station.

Since this was an existing building, and mezzanine needed to go up against a few walls, it would be needed to be designed to work around several obstructions and still allow enough room for the fire trucks to pull into the bay.

Solution

Working closely with the Florida Fire District, we came up with a design for a custom storage mezzanine that met their requirements. The mezzanine was approximately 430 square feet, with a capacity of 125lbs/psf.

The mezzanine included an L-Shaped OSHA staircase with a mid landing. The staircase was custom designed to avoid their water main stack in the one corner of the room and maximize the platform decking for storage. In addition to the staircase for employee access, we added a 6' wide slide gate, to allow for moving materials on and off the mezzanine.

After the proposal was approved and approval drawings were ready for review, one of our project managers made a site visit and made final adjustments to the designs.

Once the mezzanine was ready for shipment, we successfully coordinated the installation with our local installer.

Jeff Babcock, from the Florida Fire District, had this to say about the service we provided: “From the first time I contacted them until the day the project was completed, there was constant communication from The Mezzanine Company to the Florida Fire District. Even though the process took 2 years to become a reality, The Mezzanine Company never backed away or said they could not do the project. It was an absolute pleasure to have them 100% committed the entire time. There was constant communication from everyone. They also made several visits to our Firehouse to become familiar with the mezzanine project. I would definitely recommend The Mezzanine Company to others because of the ease of service, commitment to the project, and dependability.”

What Our Customers Say...

The staff at The Mezzanine Company seemed to be an unusually well coordinated, enthusiastic team. Everyone I interacted with had current information and knew exactly what needed to be done to keep the project moving towards completion. Your consistent, timely communication and keeping me aware of the project status made it easy to make decisions throughout the process.
