Challenge

Hitachi Chemical Advanced Therapeutics Solutions is a “an industry leader in contract development and manufacture of cell therapy products.”

Recently, the engineering department at Hitachi reached out to us since they were looking to gain storage space for their maintenance department. With plans to add some new rooms on the first floor, they were out of floor space for storage and decided to take advantage of the available air space in their warehouse.

Some of the challenges of the project would be that the mezzanine would be integrated with bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers that would be built underneath the mezzanine.

Additionally, timing was key. The customer was on a very tight schedule. Since the mezzanine was just one portion of the project, the manufacturing and installation would have to be specially coordinated with all of the other trades work going on at the same time.

As always, we met the challenge!

Solution

Working closely with the customer, we came up with a design for an approximately 1,400 square foot storage mezzanine. The mezzanine would include an OSHA staircase, to allow easy employee access, and a 6’ swing gate to provide access for moving materials on and off the mezzanine.

The mezzanine had to be custom designed with special base plates and special column locations in order to integrate with the rooms being built below.

To help meet the tight timeline, within two weeks of when the mezzanine design was approved, we were able to pre-install half of the mezzanine columns so that the customer could build and close new walls around them.

Once some of the work below the mezzanine was completed, we completed the rest of the installation. This included using a special boom crane to install several large beams over the active construction of walls being built below!

In order to minimize the interruptions to other contractors working at their facility and to help meet the timeline, the installation team put in extra time after hours and on the weekend. The mezzanine was installed to their satisfaction and was immediately put to use.

What Our Customers Say...

The staff at The Mezzanine Company seemed to be an unusually well coordinated, enthusiastic team. Everyone I interacted with had current information and knew exactly what needed to be done to keep the project moving towards completion. Your consistent, timely communication and keeping me aware of the project status made it easy to make decisions throughout the process.
