Case Study

Shiseido is “a Japanese multinational personal care company, that is a skin care, hair care, cosmetics and fragrance producer. It is one of the oldest cosmetics companies in the world”. Recently, they were looking to add a sludge press at their East Windsor, NJ location. The sludge press would need to be elevated on an equipment platform so that a dumpster could be placed below.

The company providing the sludge press, Municipal Parts, reached out to The Mezzanine Company to help provide a solution.

·     The mezzanine equipment platform would need to be designed for interaction with liquid waste.

·     The design would need to take into account the weight of both the sludge press, on top of the equipment platform, and also a conveyor that would be attached to the underside of the deck.

Working closely with the GC, LDW Technologies, Inc, and Municipal Parts, we provided a design for a custom mezzanine platform.  The platform capacity was specifically designed for the sludge press and the conveyor and their placement on the equipment platform. 

Minimizing the footprint of columns and the stairs was important in order to provide adequate space in the room for times when a dumpster was in place and also to provide a proper emergency exit pathway. We accomplished this by reducing the stair width from the usual 36” down to 30”, to reduce its footprint, and also made use of an I-beam on one side of the mezzanine, to minimize the number of columns needed.

Since liquid waste was involved in the application, the mezzanine was entirely galvanized to provide proper long-term protection.

For the flooring, we provided open steel bar grating. Lastly, we also provided a 5’ swing gate to enable the easy moving of materials on and off the platform.

Once the proposal was accepted, we worked with all parties to finalize the design quickly and get a production slot from the factory that would help meet their deadline. After careful planning and efficient communication between all parties, the mezzanine was delivered and installed. The new mezzanine equipment platform provided Shiseido with the space they needed to store their new sludge press.
