Signature Theatre is a growing theatre group in New York City. When designing their beautiful new building on 42nd Street, they created a large room to house all the props and costumes required to bring their plays to life. Their original plan was to use high shelving for storage, but they soon realized this wouldn’t be the most efficient use of space. While doing a search for possible solutions, they found our company and contacted us to see if a mezzanine might work.

Based on the drawings they sent over, we worked with them in designing a structure that would accommodate their request while still fitting into their space. This required several site visits by our technicians to ensure that everything would fit properly as we were up against walls on three sides and had several building columns to contend with as well.

The Mezzanine Company provided an L-shaped mezzanine that would fit their space and accommodate their storage needs.  The only thing left was to get the mezzanine there and installed.  This, however, was complicated by the mezzanine being assembled on a second floor with no access to the heavy equipment traditionally used for unloading and installation. To further complicate matters, the start-up date had to be delayed to work around their show openings and even with that the theatre was still going to be in use the day of delivery limiting the time available to unload it and start the installation.

Working closely with our installer, the shipping company, and Signature Theatre, we arranged for the delivery and unloading to be done by hand in the morning before the theatre was to be used and then worked late the following day to ensure that the project was still completed on schedule.

Signature Theatre was very happy with the result.
