Challenge
Sozio Alpine Inc. is an international fragrance company that can trace its roots back over 250 years to 1750’s France. From there, it has continued expanding and improving its fragrance lines to bring new scents and smells to more people around the world. It was due to this expansion that Sozio Alpine contacted The Mezzanine Company regarding an expansion of their existing storage platform at their Piscataway, New Jersey facility.
Anytime you have to work with an existing platform it presents a new series of challenges. From confirming that it was installed correctly, to making sure it is still functioning at its engineered capacity, to then, of course, integrating it into the new storage system.
Sozio also had a strict deadline for the completion of the storage platform because they needed to have industry specific equipment installed on it and tested before incorporating it into their operations.
Solution
We started off by making several site visits in order for our technicians to take measurements and evaluate the project’s finer details. It allowed us to match heights with the existing platform perfectly and to design a high capacity platform with approximately 600 square feet of storage space. Matching up the new platform with the existing platform saved them the need for a second mezzanine stair.
We also added a 6’ wide double swing gate to the new storage platform to make it easier to load material on top. Additionally, we incorporated Sozio's future equipment layout into the design making sure it would all fit in smoothly and be securely supported.
Lastly, we spent an outstanding amount of time working with both the mezzanine manufacturer’s engineering department and an independent professional engineer to help out with the permit and approval process. This involved multiple PE stamped drawings and detailed plans of various attachments, anchoring, and more. All of this was done to make certain that the project was completed in time for Sozio’s equipment to be installed on their new storage platform when it arrived.
