Challenge

Founded in 1911, Mars, Inc. is an American multinational manufacturer of confectionery, pet food, and other food products. Headquartered in McLean, Virginia, United States, the company is entirely owned by the Mars family. Mars Wrigley Confectionery has its US headquarters in both Hackettstown and Newark, New Jersey.

Recently, due to a new production line at their Hackettstown location, Mars was in need of a custom work platform to allow them to access new manufacturing equipment from above.

A third party consultant for Mars, JVS, reached out to The Mezzanine Company to provide a work platform solution. To work around the equipment below, the mezzanine footprint and column placement would be key. Additionally, the mezzanine surface would need to be able to withstand regular washdown procedures .

Solution

Working closely with JVS, we came up with a design for a 450 square foot rectangular shaped work platform mezzanine that would serve their needs. For the flooring, bar grating would be used.

To work around the equipment below, the mezzanine was custom designed, with specific column placement, based on the designs provided by the customer. The mezzanine included a straight BOCA-compliant stair to allow for foot traffic.

Additionally, to be able to handle their washdown procedures, the entire mezzanine, including stairs, decking, and railing, was galvanized.

Once the proposal was accepted, approval drawings were generated and we worked with the JVS on getting final approval.

When the mezzanine was completed production, we arranged for a prompt delivery, to meet Mars’ timing. The mezzanine was installed, by the JVS installation team, with support from our expert project management team.

What Our Customers Say...

It is always my intention to do business with companies that put customer service and satisfaction in the forefront. When we needed a mezzanine to expand storage in one of our rooms we looked for a company that we felt could fit the bill and The Mezzanine Company certainly did just that.
